Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Worship: Only One Thing is Necessary

Mary of Bethany

But only one thing is necessary.
Mary has chosen the good portion,
and it will not be taken away from her.
-Luke 10:42

Today we celebrated the first birthday of my granddaughter Peaceful One,

How quickly time has flown! I can't believe that it's been twelve months since she came into this world.

Peaceful One, a few hours old
February 7, 2015

What amazes me is that this little girl is not in this world by chance or by accident, but by divine choice. She was conceived first in the heart of God way before she was conceived in her mother's womb!

And though she will be shaped by the circumstances of her upbringing, nothing can ever change the value that the Heavenly Father has assigned to her.

And today, as she turns a year old, many emotions flood through my heart.

It's been a busy day. My dear First Born son and his wife God-given have been preparing for the party, wanting to make sure that nothing is overlooked or forgotten.

It was a beautiful birthday celebration. It was special because it was also the day Peaceful One was dedicated to the Lord.

I have thought way beforehand of the special blessing I would give her on this her twelfth month.

Worship.

I bless my dear grandchild with the blessing of worship.

My name Lidia means worshiper of God.

Another woman in the Bible, Lydia of Philippi, a seller of purple cloth, is mentioned in Acts 16:41 as a worshiper of God.

It's been many years now that I have understood why I have hungered to be close to God ever since I was a little girl. My identity and life calling are contained in my name.

Today I bless my dear granddaughter with a heart of worship.

Only one thing is needful, dear Peaceful One, and that is to sit at the feet of Jesus and gaze at His excellent worth.

He alone is worthy to be praised and adored.

I pray that as you turn one year old, your heart will be shaped and molded into becoming a true worshiper of God.

John 4:23 says this: But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him.

I pray that you will be among those counted as a true worshiper of God.

I declare that you will receive the nurture and spiritual upbringing that will prepare your heart to draw near to God in intimacy.

God the Father reveals His covenant secrets to the one who is intimate with Him.

I declare that you will receive dreams and visions and spiritual understanding even at a young age.

May your heart hunger and thirst for the things that God hungers and thirsts for.

May you be like Mary of Bethany who knew the one thing that was necessary, and the Bible says that this shall never be taken away from her... a heart of worship.

Love always,
Nana

A Mother's Prayer (Hannah's Song)
by Rachel Aldous

My sweet baby on loan from above
No better treasure could I more love
I stand here beside your bed as I pray
I lay my hand on your head and I say

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
All of your days
May He lead you and guide you
In all of your ways

May His hand bless your future
With friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
And not grow up too fast

I stare in wonder at your tiny frame
Just to think that God knows you by name
He knows every hair on your beautiful head
He knows all your thoughts before they are said

Spoken:
May God grant you peace in the midst of a storm
May God give you strength even when you're forlorn
May you answer the door when Jesus comes knocking
May wisdom guide when your mouth is talking
May discretion protect you and keep you pure
May you never stumble or fall for a lure
May your heart remain humble to the very end
May uprightness and truth be what you defend
May the world not ensnare you or change who you are
May the light that's within you shine like the stars
May angels surround you -- body, spirit, and mind
May favor and peace be yours to find
May rejection and pain never reach you
May your spirit grow bold for what you're called to
As you rest in God's care, I will rest, too
Knowing that Jesus is watching over you.
Amen.
