Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Baby Talk

"Four months old!"
God-given, First-Born, and their baby, Matthew

Matthew turned four months old today. His parents have made it a point to buy a baby-sized cake to celebrate his monthly birthday.

This baby is so special. He is the first born son of my first born son! And he is my first grandson, and that makes him really special.

I have named him Forerunner.

Ernie and I have regularly prayed for this baby even while he was still in his mother's womb.

And these are the special verses that God has put in my heart for my grandson:

"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you;
before you were born, I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

Do not say, 'I am a youth,'
For you shall go to all to whom I send you.
And whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of their faces
For I am with you to deliver you," says the Lord.

Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth and the Lord said to me:

"Behold I have put my words in your mouth.
See I have this day set you
over the nations and over the kingdoms,
To root out and to pull down,
To destroy and to throw down,
To build and to plant."

Jeremiah 1:5, 7-10

This was the special blessing that I prayed over my grandson today:

In the name of Jesus, Matthew, I bless you today with a reverential fear of God and an ability to highly respect the Lord. Then you will be happy and find great delight in keeping God's commands.

Today, in faith, I declare that You will not be afraid of people -- either great or small -- or of what they can say or do against you. Circumstances will never shake you from your foundation as long as you fear the Lord and obey His word.

I bless you with a great skill in hating those things that God hates --
a prideful spirit,
a lying tongue,
an unruly mouth,
and evil thoughts.

His banner will be displayed over you because you recognize that He is the God of truth and righteousness.

You asked about the Beth Moore Study I'm doing. It is a workbook called, "A Heart Like His" Seeking the Heart of God Through a Study of David. It is avaialble through Lifeway.com and you can probably get it at your local Christian Bookstore. I have thoroughly enjoyed it!

As I read this post, the thought came to me, "When I am an old woman, what will Matthew be?" Then the thought came, "He will be a powerful man of God."

Happy Birthday, Matthew!!

With a praying Grandmother, like you, Maria, how could Matthew be anything but a powerful man of God?

There's nothing like the first born of a first born. My oldest son shares that honor and has lived up to his "billing" in so many ways. He'll turn 20 in April. And while all of my kids are equally loved and treasured by their grandparents, there's just a special connection that I see with him and his "paps." I'm so glad for it.

Also, so glad for friends that are willing to interrupt our lives with the offer of plane tickets and continuing friendship! I pray that in time, you will be able to make the trip to be with your friends.

Blessings on your week.
