Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Let Us Break Bread Together

"In Remembrance of Me"

Remembering the broken body and shed blood of Jesus
Interceding for my beloved homeland, the Philippines
and my spiritual heritage, Israel as well as two other nations
that have been a great blessing to me - Switzerland and Thailand

Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.

- Psalm 2:8

Today, in observance of Good Friday, I celebrated the Lord's Supper all by myself, remembering the broken body and shed blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary more than two thousand years ago.

In Sita's blog which I read this morning, she issued an invitation for others to post the Negro spiritual Let Us Break Bread Together, from their part of the globe.

Amrita, another blog friend from India also featured this song for her Maundy Thursday post.

It is a beautiful song of community, and I do want to respond to Sita's invitation.

Here are the lyrics of that moving song, and please do click on the video clip below to listen to tenor Antoine Garth accompanied by John Ferguson on the piano.

The chord changes on the piano accompaniment give a new dimension to this familiar song!

Let us break bread together on our knees
Let us break bread together on our knees
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun
Oh Lord have mercy on me.

Let us drink wine together on our knees
Let us drink wine together on our knees
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun
Oh Lord have mercy on me.

Let us praise God together on our knees
Let us praise God together on our knees
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun
Oh Lord have mercy on me.

Daer Lidj,
A rare tenor, Antoine Garth, thank you for introducing him.
The wonder of YouTube will let me meet him more often.

I like the thought of us breaking bread around the world.
The church walls may divide, the internet not.

"Ask of me, and I will give you."

I've done some very humiliating reflecting lately.
On myself and my relationship with God.
He has been graceful, answering and helping over and over again.
My life is a long line of prayers answered.

God wants us to pray. Over and over, both in O.T. and N.T., we are encourage to bring all our needs in front of him.
His promises and will according to praying cannot be of debate.

Even so, I know in my heart that were it not for my many troubles, illnesses and so on, God would not have found my on bended knees that often.

God need me to need him, else I would probably not have stuck that close to his side.
I am not a better Christian, after all these years.

Today is Long Friday in Norway.
The prophesies of Isaiah are well know.
Yet its them I'm reminded to share today.
Isaiah 53 (King James Version)

Isaiah 53

1Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

11He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

oh crown of beauty, not only was your message so precious, but the comments here..oh my!
i read the whole beautiful chapter here of isaaih 53.
what really struck me is "he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter".
i imagine the other two men just fought all that they were worth.
they sure didn't want to go to those crosses.
i will never forget a story that one of our elderly preachers once told us.
he said that when he was taken on tour of a slaughter house, there was a huge struggle when the pigs were being taken to be killed... a lot of fighting and squealing.
but when the lambs were led, they walked along without a fight and never even struggled when the time came.
no wonder that the sheep is a picture of our lord.
by the same token, his sweat was as droplets of blood when he was praying in the garden because he saw all that sin in the cup he would be drinking..he who knew no sin was going to pay for our sin.
our friend told us that while the workers took their break, that there were sheep that were waiting for their turn to be killed and it broke mr. paisley's heart when he saw that the dear animals were standing there just trembling.
as if they knew what was going to be happening,
it would have broken my heart too!
this was a great post crown of beauty...love terry

i don't think it is too late to pray for sita's son because even though he might be feeling better now, i could pray that he always has this desire in his heart to be at the business of living his life for god.
just imagine that boy...not wanting to miss the youth rally....
