Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Honoring Barb

Jerry and Barb Osbron, taken on the day they said goodbye to us, fifteen years ago

The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree...

- Psalm 92:12

We held a memorial service to honor the life of Barb Osbron tonight.

My sister in law offered to hold it at their home, to make the affair more intimate, personal, and meaningful.

The Osbrons pastored our church in its early years, from 1978 to 1994. A total of fifteen years.

Those were very happy, formative years because the church was new, and the total membership at the start was less than a hundred. We were like a closely knit family, celebrating the events of our lives together for many years.

Many of the original members have already moved to Manila and other different parts of the world such as the United States, England, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East.

About fifty of the original members, the "old-timers" we called ourselves, gathered tonight.

We tried to invite even former members who have already moved to other local churches, and we were happy that many of them came.

The love of Jesus, and our faith in what He accomplished through the cross, was the common thread that bound our lives together.

As we sang the old praise songs that we used to sing, like Something Beautiful, You Are My Hiding Place, In His Time, many of us couldn't keep the tears from falling.

Those were the foundational years of our church, and we all remember what it was like.

Jerry and Barb were our spiritual parents. They truly gave us the best years of their lives.

As Ruby said tonight, she will never forget them because what they taught us had an eternal value. And things with eternal value last for eternity!

From a small group of about 20-30 people in 1979 (thirty years ago!) when Ernie and I first came, meeting every Sunday in the open terrace of the Osbron residence, and at different homes each day of the week, we have grown today to thousands, with multiple worship services meeting every Sunday in different parts of the city, and for care group ministries throughout the week.

It was awesome to realize that two tiny seeds represented by the life of Jerry and Barb have become full grown trees... very many trees that are now bearing fruits.

The evening was indeed a heart warming celebration of the life of Barb. We sang her favorite songs, shared the beautiful experiences we had with her, and enjoyed the special video compilation of old pictures taken of our early years togetther.

At the end of the memorial service, we all sat down to a sumptuous meal, reminiscent of the many meals we had eaten together in the past.

Although we are sad at Barb's passing away, we know the separation is temporary.

Heaven will someday be a glad reunion for all who have Jesus as their Savior and Lord!

It sounds like it was a beautiful memorial service in tribute of a beautiful soul.
I love that you not only focus on the loss of one so wonderful from this world, but that you also focus on how Blessed you were to have had the Gift of her in your life.
And I love the certainty of the Gift of your Faith.

Beautiful post. Thanks so much for sharing this.
All the best,
Eileen

Lidj,

What a beautiful way to celebrate a new life entering into the eternal home of heaven. Someday the reunion will be one worth remembering, but until that time we treasure those we hold dear in our hearts til we are called home.

Love and Hugs ~ Kat

Barb must have meant a lot to you and your church to remember her in such a loving and meaningful way.

Such are the saints if God.

I like the beautiful smiling faces of all the church friends you have photographed.

The hanging lamps are so pretty and your sister 's home is lovely and plush.

Growing up Catholic, death was NEVER a celebration of one's life! It was incredibly depressing! Now that I am a Believer in Christ, I understand that is IS depressing when one has no hope! Thank God for Jesus. because of Him, it's only a minor separation!

We never know how many lives we touch and in what way. We do have control over what we touch them with ,As your dear pastor and wife touched you and many with the Gospel ( good news story ) which is the truth above all truths in this world and worlds to come.Oh that we could give Jesus to all who we see each day..What a tribute and legendary to leave behind. Reminds me of

Rev:14; 13
And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write , Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them
