Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Rainy Day Friendship

One of the things I look forward to whenever I am in Manila is spending time with my friends.

It has been very stormy since I arrived here Monday night. My friends Tina and Gina, and I, had planned to go to the World Food Expo at the World Trade Center today, and we were hoping the skies would have cleared up by this morning.

Well, by mid morning, typhoon Kiko was slowly inching its way toward Taiwan, but Metro Manila still experienced the gusty tail end winds and rains of the tropical cyclone.

It took me two train rides to get to Taft Avenue where my two friends were waiting for me. But thank God for the convenience of these fast trains! Despite the inclement weather I reached my destination before too long.

It turned out to be such a delightful adventure for the three of us. We had a lovely time sampling the different food products and beverages on exhibit. It was windy and rainy outside, but inside the building we were dry, and our hearts warmed by the special time we three friends spent together.

Below are some pictures I took at the World Food Expo.

The Thailand food exhibits really made me teary-eyed. Seeing all the familiar delicacies that Ernie and I used to enjoy eating made me nostalgic for that time we lived in that country.

This is Suwan Bunchoo, cooking the famous pad thai right before our eyes!

Can you guess what we ate for lunch?

This offer was difficult to resist!

Here's Tina, me and Gina enjoying our Hawaiian coffee
after that delicious lunch of pad thai noodles!

A unique cake at the fondant cake exhibition.

A good way to re-cycle food containers -- turn them into bags!

Beautiful floral centerpieces at the table setting exhibition.

Ready to drink tea at the Korean beverage booth.
The truth is, we were interested in the bottles more than in the contents!

Gina's choice.

My choice.

Oishis are locally made chips with interesting new flavors.

On our way out of the World Trade Center, I saw these flags flying at half mast. Today is the third day of the ten-day national mourning period for the death of our past president Cory Aquino.

Homeward bound!
I took this shot while on board the all-female section of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT). Only females, children, and senior citizens (people who are 60 and above) are allowed on this part of the train.

Dear Lidj,

What a great time! Thank you for the photos! I've seen those Tea bottles, too, and find them to be works of art! So delicate and pretty enough to serve as vases.

Regarding your request, I'm both humbled and grateful that you’d wish to post this on you blog. Please feel free to, and may others be blessed and the Lord glorified. Grace is so prevalent in our lives. It would take too many books to write of the abundance of God’s grace in our own story! Like you, the Lords’ goodness is reflected in the names of our children–our youngest daughter is named Grace Victoria! We were, and ever are, aware that only by His grace we stand victorious in this world!

You are a minister of grace for whom I am truly thankful! Love, Linda

Lidj,

WOW! Looks like so much fun. I love authentic Hawaiian coffee. I beg my friends when visiting there to please bring me back a bag along with a pineapple. Both never last long however.

Why the separate cars for women and children? I have never heard of that til now.

You have an ALL women/children section in the metro!? That is so interesting? Is this wagon on every train. Do women and men ever ride together? I've never heard of this before.....
