Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Waiting for Elijah

Sunrise in Sagada
Mountain Province, Philippines

by Jojo Nicdao

But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings...

- Malachi 4:2

My daughter-in-law Chosen One is expected to give birth in early December.

When I found out about a month ago that their baby is a boy, the name Elijah came up in my heart.

However, I did not want to take away from Worshiper and his wife the joy and the privilege of naming their own child, so I kept it to myself. At one point, the name Zachary was mentioned. A few days later I went to Manila to attend the Elijah House school.

I returned to Bacolod three weeks later. While Worshiper and I were having coffee, just about an hour after I we got home from the airport last Wednesday. I casually asked him if they have already decided on what name to give their baby.

We have decided to call him Elijah, Worshiper said.

My heart leaped with joy. It really was a God moment for me.

Rejoice with me, dear friends and family, as we prepare for the birth of my second grandson, Elijah.

Below is a song that is quite special to me, Days of Elijah, by Robin Mark. It was the song that God placed in my heart on my 50th year, my jubilee year.

I'm so happy for you on the anticipation of this baby.
It appears that God has chosen this name for him!
I love that song too.

Amazing Lidj!
Congratulations! I believe we are sometimes meant to be named something...for whatever reason, it is a name already chosen for us.
When I was born my mom was about to name me "Colleen Nicole" but she said that as she was giving birth she heard a voice inside tell her "No, her name is Colleen Patricia". :)
Anyway I love your story and think it's wonderful and I share in your joy my friend!

Dearest Lidj,

Can't sleep, thinking of a dear friend who is seeing her oncologist today for news. I'm fidgeting. Having just lost my beloved friend and neighbor, Sandra Chen, your sweet words left at my blog felt like water on parched ground. Thank you for the kindness.

I'm so happy for your little Elijah, and the sweetness of his naming. May he bring you and your family years of joy.

Names. I'm reminded of a story regarding our son, Matthew. Actually, it's a story about his little friend, Chris. The boys were five-ish as I recall. One night as Chris's mother was tucking him in he began to cry. His mother was finally able to get to the problem: Chris was worried because Matthew's name "was in God's Book of Life" but his name, Christopher, wasn't. He said he knew that was true because he had been looking. When his mother asked how he could look into God's Book of Life, Chris pointed to his Bible! Needless to say, it was a teachable moment that ended sweetly.

Also appreciated your thoughts in "A Time to Die." The photos of the 2 trees were a powerful illustration to your heart felt words.

May God richly bless you as you continue to bless.

Days of Elijah is one of my favorite songs! Going into the hospital, he was going to be named Elijah Wills (plus last name) - and because the delivery went so well (God was so good - the previous delivery had been a crash c-section - verying harrowing) - and in relief, I agreed to Caleb (a name I had not liked). On our first day at church, they played "Days of Elijah" and felt like God was telling us something, so we corrected his birth certificate, "Caleb Elijah Wills (plus last name)" - He is truly a caleb - loyal, faithful, whole-hearted - and he is so that. And Elijah meaning "The Lord is My God" is quietly unfurling within him and will be the foundation of his faithfulness! He just recently dedicated his life to the Lord and was Baptized.

I am so excited for you and your family! What a special moment when she told you the name they had chosen. A beautiful moment of spiritual accord! Congratulations!
