Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Unto Us A Son is Born

Matthew Miguel, 10 hours old

Matthew Miguel was born at 5:20 a.m. on October 20, 2008. He weighed 7.9 pounds and measured 51 cm. The newborn baby was given an APGAR score of 9.1-9.5.

We had all hoped and prayed for a normal delivery. Being her official Lamaze coach, I was with my daughter in law, God-Given, from 11 p.m. up to 5 a.m., doing the childbirth breathing techniques together.

But after nearly 12 hours of intense labor, she had no choice but to deliver her baby by caesarian section.

We both knew it was the only thing to do. God-Given was really quite exhausted by this time and I know she had done the very best she could. As she was being wheeled into the operating room, I held her hand and prayed silently for her and the baby.

Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning.

Psalm 30:5

The birth process has not been easy for God-Given, and I know that as new parents, their hearts may feel overwhelmed by their new roles and corresponding responsibilities.

Both First Born and his wife still have a long road ahead of them. But with every new season comes its share of hope and joyous expectation.

Indeed, this baby's arrival brings so much joy to our family.

My husband and I will be around to help First Born and his wife cross their bridges, to provide them with the support and guidance that they so need at this time.

First time parents are in great need of experienced mentors, and we will only be too happy to fill this role, if doing so will help them avoid some of the costly mistakes that we went through.

But I also know that there will be many times when we will have to stand back, and let God be the One to teach them what they need to learn first hand from Him.
