Because he understood what it meant to hold on to God's promises, he was willing to put his all on the altar.
Abraham was a worshiper; He lived in constant fellowship with his God.
Abraham will always be my model for a life that is lived in faith and obedience.

In early February, one of my blog friends, Vickie Thomas, wrote a moving post entitled "The Promise." It touched me so deeply that I asked permission to re-post it here.
Vickie's blog Writing While Walking was created to record her walk with God as she waits for His glorious coming.
Each time I visit Vickie's blog, I sense her deep love for God, and my heart is drawn to respond in worship.
I invite you to visit her blog and read more of her writings. As you read her words, may you be led to draw near to the Father, and build an altar of worship, just as Abraham did.
The Promise
by AnooCre8ion on February 2, 2010
so that it may be by grace
and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring
- not only to those who are of the law
but also to those who have the faith of Abraham.
He is the father of us all.
- Romans 4:16
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed
and so became the father of many nations,
just as it had been said to him,
"So shall your offspring be."
he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead
- since he was about a hundred years old -
and that Sarah's womb was also dead.
Yet he did not waver through unbelief,
regarding the promise of God,
but was strengthened in his faith
and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded
that God had power to do what he had promised.
This is why it was credited to him as righteousness.
not for him alone, but also for us,
to whom God will credit righteousness -
for us who believe in Him
who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
He was delivered over to death for our sins
and was raised to life for our justification.
I know I may have said it here a few times already but I have to say it again. I absolutely love the Word of God. I love the hope, the promise, the uplifting, the refreshing and all that you find there, when you can find it no where else.
As a family we have been trusting God for an open door in a situation for quite a while now. It's one that will literally change our lives. We know the promises of God and we know the plans of God according to His word, but many times when we look at the actual facts around us, sometimes we do feel a bit of despair.
We felt that way yesterday. We felt as though we didn't have any hope. We felt as though we've been waiting so long that it probably will not happen. But I am thankful to God for His word and His promises.
As I spent some time in the word this morning, He spoke so clearly to my heart. He showed me Abraham, who had a promise that seemed like it wouldn't come to pass. He showed me that Abraham's hope was not in the promise but in the One who made the promise.
Verse 16 of this Romans chapter 4 tells us that we, as children of faith, are guaranteed the promise.
What is that promise?
It's the promise first of salvation and all that it encompasses.
The promise of healing,
the promise of deliverance,
the promise of prosperity,
the promise of dreams fulfilled,
the promise of receiving the desires of our heart.
The word says this promise was not just to Abraham but also to his offspring. We are Abraham's offspring. He is our father.
My heart is so charged up from the reminders in God's word that I don't even remember how it felt before.
Friends do you see the importance and the necessity of a regular dose of the Word of God? No wonder it says that we should not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
As if that wasn't enough to let me know that I too am an heir of the promise, the Holy Spirit went on to show me that even though Abraham faced the facts that were before him, he did not let them deter him from the promise God had made to him.
If he didn't why should I, why should you?
He looked at the fact that yes, his body was as good as dead, for after all he was almost a hundred years old. He looked at the fact that Sarah's womb was also dead for she was pretty old at that time too.
But who today know that facts have nothing to do with the promises of God? God is the One who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. (v. 17)
The Word says, despite all the facts before him Abraham knew that God had the power to do what He had promised.
O thank you Jesus! Lord thank you today that I can hope against all hope. Lord thank you today that my hope that is in You is hope that is not ashamed.
I think you can tell by now how excited I am at the possibilities presented in the Word of God.
It doesn't matter what your circumstances say today.
It doesn't matter how long you or your spouse may have been unemployed.
It doesn't matter how long you or your loved one may have been facing illness.
It doesn't matter how long your marriage might have been on the rocks.
It doesn't matter how long it looked as though your home was going into foreclosure.
It doesn't matter how long you have been waiting for finances or resources for that small business you dream of.
It doesn't matter how long your children have been outside of the will of God.
It doesn't matter how long that friendship has been broken.
It doesn't matter how long you have been waiting for answer to that prayer.
Friends, lets plant this truth deep deep deep in our hearts from this moment onward and don't let go of it. Let's BE FULLY PERSUADED THAT, GOD HAS THE POWER TO DO WHAT HE PROMISED.
Don't let go of the truths in God's word. God is not man. He does not lie. It's not His nature. He will do what He said He will do.
The promise came by faith. Have faith not in what you see but in what God sees. He sees all good and perfect things for us.
I encourage you to look to the Word. If you feel as though you are getting nothing from the Word, ask the Holy Spirit to show you. Let Him lead you and show you the wondrous things God has promised you and I.
Father, thank you today that we have faith in Jesus.
Thank You for a complete work that was done at Calvary allowing us to rest in that finished word.
God you are well able to do all that You have promised. Our job is to trust in You.
We rest in the truths of Your Word this day, knowing that when we don't waver in our faith, we will see Your Mighty Hand at work in our lives.
We receive by faith right now all the inheritance that is ours.
In Jesus name. Amen

Lidj, you are such a dear dear sister in the Lord. My heart is so blessed and humbled to see you use this post. Only yesterday God led me to it again and it truly touched my heart all over again to know that God is on my side and that He keeps His promises.
My heart's desire is that this would minister life and hope to any one who is in doubt today about the promises of God.
May God continue to richly bless you as you share His word.
blessings,
Vickie
Great post and I know many will be encouraged...It's not easy to understand that "we believe by faith and not by seeing"...when sometimes, we rather see any evidence before we believe. But "faith" is not an intellectual thing. It is spiritual. And it comes by hearing, not seeing.
"These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.' - 1 Peter 1:7
God bless sister Lidj and thank you for sharing this awesome post. Have a great weekend.
I believe God wants to talk to me about Abraham and his faith this morning. I've just finished my devotions - on Abrahams's faith and now I read this.
I'm so glad you posted this. It's a great reminder of God's power in whatever circumstances we find ourselves.
Amen to ALL of the above. You know that Romans 4 is one of the verses on the Header of my blog.
God is a Covenant MAKING God and therefore a Covenant KEEPING God!
The Promises of God are endless but we must exercise our FAITH to BELIEVE that He Is Who He says He IS and that He can DO what He says He will do!
Awaiting the glorious promises of God with you dear one!

Oh, amen! God's promises are as good, no better, than gold. They are true, and right and pure. They are His love letter to us...
Thank you so much for sharing this site with us, Lidj! I popped over there and found a new soul friend. Thanks for stopping by my place; I've really missed you these past months :)
Lidj,
This was such an uplifting post and I am so glad that you reposted it here for all of us to be inspired and refreshed in the promises of God.
I feel a little lighter today thanks to coming by here. I just need to keep in the Word of God!

You have spoken truth that women need to hear - it's one I've been thinking of lately, how so many women in my life are anxious and treading cautiously in life, fretting over things, and are not in the Word of God, consistently. It's been a burden on my heart. You verified it. I, too, love God's word. Nothing beats it.
A resounding Amen! The promises of God are yes and amen!!
You were such a blessing to me this morning with your stop at my blog. Your words, your kindness--exactly what I needed at that moment. Much love, Lidj!!
Oh my! I truly needed to read this today. Lately, it has been quite difficult for me to really stay in The Word. I have had such a hard time 'hearing' God's voice amidst all the 'noise' in my life. Dealing with all the pain and suffering that has become my life has been exhausting - almost unbearable - and that makes it difficult to think about almost anything else. Oh, I put up a brave front for everyone! I try to put on my happy face and keep a positive attitude about it all, but deep down I am often really sad, angry, lonely and depressed. I sit and grieve for the life that was once mine, the life that I shared with my family. (Of course, they are still here with me but they are so busy, busy, busy and I'm unable to participate in most of their activities due to my illness. :0( )
It is so hard to conceive how the Lord could possibly have an amazing plan for all of the crazy things that have happened in my life but I truly trust Him, so I know that He does. However, on some of my really sick and pain-filled days, it is SO incredibly hard to squeeze out that itty-bitty mustard seed of faith!
*sigh*
Thanks, Lidj, for sharing this with me. I am definitely going to check out Vickie's blog AND I may even ask her if I can do as you have done and share it with others on my blog. It is such an amazing, inspirational piece.
I hope and pray that you are doing well. Have a wonderfully blessed weekend!
Love you,
Teresa <><
Dear Lidj,
I'm certain I'm lead over to your blog, to get to learn what I need to know in right time.
We are a family used to place small and big issues in front of the Lord.
I just sat here thinking, how we prayed about one specific theme, and how it seems that our prayer wasn't heard, when I came to your blog.
Of course it was heard, but the outcome was his, not our will.
I also have a prayerchild back in my birthtown. He's 90, and can die any day, but still is not saved.
I know I shall have to continue praying, cause my mother and me are the only ones left to pray. I new his mother, she has been with the Lord for 50 years, but she had great need for her sons, and this one in particular.
Indeed I take your words to my heart,"It doesn't matter how long you have been waiting for answer to that prayer." and keep on praying.
About everything. And I know I'm being heard.

Again ... the word of God permeates your post ... to sup and dine with you through His divine message is awesome.
Lidj:
This is so powerful and so packed full of what we ALL need. If we don't feel the need for that degree of faith today, we will by tomorrow!
I love the affirmations of who God is and how true His promises are!!
LOVE these words today!
Sonja
This is so beautiful, Lidj, and it really does lift a burden off the heart to think that God Is here and He will provide. There really is no sense in fretting about so many situations, especially if we feel we've done all we can, it's best to leave it in the Hands of the only One Who can take care of everything, and trust that He will take care of it in His time.
And I love how you love the Word of God, and it's infectious!
Thank you for sharing your faith, it's a great help to me in my life.
Love to you,
Eileen
