Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Blog Anniversary!

Crown of Beauty turned two years old last week!

This means that this blog has been around for 24 months... or 104 weeks... or 730 days!

This really calls for a celebration! During that span of time, I have posted nearly 200 blog entries, and have come to know very many beautiful fellow blog authors on this virtual place they call "Blog Land."

On February 7, 2008, I wrote my very first post entitled
What's In a Name?. It gives a brief introduction to this weblog, and why I named it Crown of Beauty.

To be a blog writer was never in my wildest dreams. I was not really an internet person, and two years ago, I did not even know that there was such a thing as a blog.

My husband Ernie and I were living in Chiang Mai, Thailand at the time this blog was born in February 2008. We had 24 hours free internet access at the university flat where we lived, and in the evenings, after dinner, we had plenty of time on our hands.

A friend named Jenny encouraged me to begin a blog. Thinking one had to be a computer techie to be a blog writer, I had a hundred and one reasons as to why blogging was not for me.

After overcoming my initial hesitation and reluctance, I discovered the joys of having a blog.
It has given me a wonderful opportunity to put up important signposts - for myself, and for my loved ones, those who are interested enough to know what's going on in my life. I have family and friends who I know are regular readers of my blog. The signposts serve as important reminders to me of how far I have gone; they are also for my loved ones to follow.

A blog has also helped me to tell about my spiritual journey, and is therefore a tremendous aid to "soulmaking." Theresa of Avila described the soul as an interior castle that most people never explore. And she is so right.

Keeping an online journal has helped me to be disciplined in writing down my thoughts in an organized way. Just as turning a faucet allows water to flow, so has writing a blog helped my thoughts to flow out. My flashbacks have helped me see the events of my life from a different perspective, and given me understanding for my present, and hope for my future.

In many ways, this blog has indeed helped me to keep track of my soul's condition.

I have not made it my aim to have too many blogs on my dashboard, for practical reasons. As in real life, I can only relate meaningfully to a few close friends at a time. The rest of them end up being mere acquaintances. I look at my blog friendships in the same way.

So, on this my second blog anniversary, I want to thank all my blog friends who have encouraged, inspired and uplifted me, by sharing their lives, by regularly visiting my blog, reading what I have to say, and leaving behind heartfelt responses in spite of their busy schedules.

The beautiful frame pictured above is a gift created for me by Katie of Hope is Calling. She is one blog friend that I truly appreciate.

In the final analysis, I have come to realize that maintaining a blog is a
give and take proposition. If you want good blog friendships, then take the initiative by being a good blog friend yourself. Most blogs I have visited and commented on have usually returned the favor. On a few occasions I have been flatly ignored, and I can only guess at the possible reason.

It doesn't matter to me at all!
I can really say that the Christian blog world is a gold mine of wonderful people!

This past year 2009, as I was grieving the death of my husband, it was this blog that helped me to be in touch with my own feelings, and gave me countless precious opportunities to process my pain.
My blog friends were always ready with their hearts wide open to understand what I was going through, and to receive me into their lives.

In His wisdom, God knew that I would need this venue to help Him get through me in my difficult hours. So the real honor as I celebrate my blog's second year belongs to the One Who created me, and has designed me, and has given me a beautiful destiny and purpose for living!

He has placed so much hope in my heart for the journey ahead of me!

I give glory to my God, my King, my Creator...for the person that I have become and am becoming. May this blog continue to be a channel of blessing to anyone who visits, and may God always be honored and glorified by the words that I write here!

What a blessed CELEBRATION we have to rejoice with you about as you come to this new milestone!

And to think that God had Blogland and YOUR "Crown of Beauty" planned before the foundations of the world - blows my mind.

I am so blessed that you take the time to INVEST your life INTO mine and others who come here for:
* WISDOM [Yours - from HIS]
* The WORD of TRUTH
* The Beauty of His Creation
* Friendship of United Hearts
* GRACE for all people

YOU BLESS ME EVERY TIME...

I treasure that we share all of the above - even though we live continents apart - our hearts are united and full and spilling over with the Love of our God - our JESUS!

Choosing Great JOY,

Happy Anniversary, Lidj!
Your blog has been such a Blessing in my life, and it's a Blessing I've sadly been missing out on for weeks now! My computer is still in the shop and we are told they still can't figure out what's wrong with it! So much for the 'geniuses' at Apple Computer! Ha!
I've been using my husband's PC now and then but it's not the same at all. So I guess I'll be away from blogland for awhile longer.

Do you know February is one year for me blogging too?! I think I was February 24 but I'm not sure. 'Hope I can be back to blogging regularly by then.

It's been a pleasure getting to know you, and it's been a Blessing to my soul!

Love to you,
Eileen

Lidj,

Congratulations on 2 years of blogging! Isn't it amazing at just how wonderful the process is? You start off just journaling your thoughts and then someone comments. Then you start writing things God wants you to share with others and you get more comments and followers and then over time, you realize that you are not just getting followers and comments but family and love from people who really care about you from all over the world.

You are one special lady and have become a huge mentor to me. I love you and congratulations again!

Congratulations sister Lidj! I'm so grateful to have met you and I'm glad that you had been blogging. I started also in Jan.2008.
I'm glad that you listened to His nudging to do this because your words are so powerful and truly encourages me [and others]with my own walk with the Lord. I didn't expect to have met many, many wonderful friends here. Like you.

Let's keep glorifying the Lord through our written words. May many more come to know His love and offer of salvation through your words and other precious siblings in Christ. God bless you always sister Lidj and may He protect you and your family always.

Happy blogaversary, Lidj! Wow--two years. I'm coming up on one. Like you, I'm not a techie, and some of the things I've done have been way over my head. But it's about relationships--with God and with others--more than technology. And listening...I can't wait to see what God does in your life for year 3!

Happy Blog anniversary Lidj! I am so glad that you decided to blog 2 years ago and I am so glad to have met you here. I thoroughly enjoy coming here and visiting with you and love it when you stop by and see me too. That really is the reason that I blog. I could keep a private online journal if I wanted to but the relationships that I have found and enjoy so much make blogging a treasure in my life that I feel is a definite blessing from the Lord, including the friendship that I have found in you. :)
Congrats on making it two years!
Have a great week,
Christy

Thankful to have met you in my FIRST year of blogging! It is SO good to hear how you began and how God has used this tool to encourage you and keep you "accountable" to yourself as well as opening a world of friendships to you!

You have articulated some of my own thoughts about the benefits of a blog. To me, it is a mirror of my soul (conditional on my honesty and "sober" self-knowledge).

I thank God for you and pray that your THIRD hear will find you growing more and more into a knowledge of the hope to which He has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe!

Happy Blogiversary! You have been a great encouragement to me and Matt too (he says so over my shoulder as I type). Thank you for your faithful and loving comments to my posts...even when they are few and far between. I've always enjoyed your "signposts."

Happy Blogaversary! I am so glad that you threw down those 100 reasons why you couldn't blog and did. Every since last May, you have been a blessing and an encouragement. Your messages have lifted me up when I was down. It has been as though God knew I was struggling and whispered words I needed to hear and you delivered them.

I am slowly gaining balance back in my life after my father-in-law's death. It has been like being the tin-man, caught in a storm and unable to move. Slowly, each part is oiled and limbers and movement comes awkwardly and gracefully.

I am so glad you answered God's call:)
