Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Haggo'el - The Divine Exchange

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God...
- Isaiah 61:1-3

She will give birth to a son,
and you are to name Him Yeshua,
[which means"ADONAI saves,"]
because he will save his people from their sins.
- Matthew 1:21
Complete Jewish Bible

Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions;
He was crushed for our iniquities;
upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with His stripes we are healed.
- Isaiah 53:4-5

I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that in the end He will stand on the earth.
- Job 19:25

My third grandson Jeremiah David turned eleven months five days ago.

The blessing that is on my heart for him is based on the name of Jesus as our Redeemer.

Below are some of the dictionary definitions for redeem:

1: to buy back; repurchase
2: to get or win back to free from what distresses or harms, as a) to free from captivity by payment of ransom; b) to extricate from, or help to overcome something detrimental; c) to release from blame or debt, clear; d) to free from the consequences of sin
3: to change for the better, reform
4: repair, restore
5: a) to free from a lien by payment of an amount secured thereby, b) (1) to remove the obligation of by payment, (2) to exchange for something of value, c) to make good, fulfill
6: a) to atone for; expiate, b) (1) to offset the bad effect of, (2) to make worthwhile, retrieve

The Hebrew word for Redeemer is Haggo'El. And it only makes sense if we understand that we have fallen into the hands of the enemy, and there is no rescue for us, except for Someone who will pay the price for our ransom.

The death of Jesus on the cross is a legal transaction between the Father and Satan.

Father God created man as the crowning glory of all creation. By an act of unfaithfulness, man chooses Satan over God. Man is doomed to eternal death because of this choice.

The only way out for man is to be redeemed, to be bought back, to be ransomed from the hands of the enemy.

It is the only way man can be given life again.

And Jesus, the precious Son of God agrees to lay down His life through death on the cross to buy us back our pardon and redemption.

As our Haggo'el, Jesus has purchased us back from the enemy, with His death He has paid the ransom price. He has freed us from from the condemnation of our sin and the heavy burden of our shame. He has transformed us from our slave mentality to royal status as children of the King. Through His death, we have regained our noble standing as heirs, we have a divine inheritance.

Indeed, His death on the cross has made a divine exchange possible:

...the riches of heaven in exchange for my poverty
...eternal life in exchange for eternal death
...His glory and dignity for my shame
...I once was blind but now I see
...I once was lost but now am found
...I once was homeless but now heaven is my home
...pardon for my guilt
...freedom for my imprisonment
...wholeness for my brokenness
...peace for my restlessness
...blessing for my curse
...abundance for my depravity
...royal status in exchange for my slavery
...divine acceptance for my rejected state
...healing for my woundedness
and so much more!

Today, as we celebrate the Jewish New Year Rosh HaShanah, is a fitting occasion to bless my grandson with the blessings of a redeemed life, an exchanged life.

My dear Joyful One,
As you turn 11 months, I bless you with the blessings of a redeemed life.

You will know Jesus as your Redeemer, and your Savior at an early age.

You will grow up knowing what it means to walk in healing, wholeness, and acceptance... because Jesus has already made the divine exchange possible with His own death.

There are so many wonderful things made possible by Jesus as our Haggo'El. Dearest one, I pray that you will understand and experience the benefits of the cross in your life and in your relationships.

How I pray that your heart will long to know Jesus more as you grow up, that you will seek your significance in Him alone, and not in what this world offers.

I pray that Jesus will be your personal Haggo'El. And in so doing, you will be aware of your true identity as valued and precious in God's eyes. The enemy can never plant His lies in your soul.

May God our Father continue to reveal more truths to you as you grow up. The seeds of truth have been planted in your young heart, I pray that these seeds will be nourished and nurtured and never stolen by the enemy from you.

Much love always,
Nana
