Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Hidden Strength

This is what the Sovereign Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, says:
"In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength..."

- Isaiah 30:15

The word of the Lord came to me, saying:
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you
Before you were born I set you apart
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations...."

Then the Lord reached out His hand
and touched my mouth, and said to me:
"I have put my words in your mouth.
See today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms
to uproot them and tear down,
to destroy and overthrow,
to build and to plant."

- Jeremiah 1:4-5, 9-10

Today is my second grandson's birthday. His given name is Andre Elijah, but I have conferred the spiritual name Full of Hope and Mighty Warrior upon him.

He was born two years ago under difficult circumstances. After hours of dry labor, his mother Chosen One gave birth to him by C-section.

He had to be resuscitated, and was immediately placed in an incubator upon birth.

Full of Hope, a few minutes after he was born

Hours later, his pediatrician ran a series of tests on him which confirmed that the newborn baby had pneumonia. He was confined in the NICU for the next eleven days under the care of two neonatal specialists.

It was not an easy time for our family, but we held on to hope.

Eleven days later, asleep in his own bed, completely healed

Today Full of Hope is an energetic and talkative little boy, a constant reminder of the goodness and faithfulness of God.

The enemy tried to steal his destiny, but God had other plans. It is good to remember, and never forget what God has done in your life.

I am praying for you today, dear grandson. My prayer is that you will grow up to be a young man of noble character.

Humble.

Being worthy of esteem and respect.

May you develop a wisdom and maturity beyond your years.

Sensible, and full of discernment.

These are the character traits of nobility, one born with royal blood.

You will grow up to be a man who is "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry."

You will not be easily offended, but rather know how to overlook an offense.

You will choose which battles are worth fighting.

You will not sweat the small stuff.

Rather, you will know instinctively what your kingdom priorities are.

You will reserve your energies for greater things.

Your speech will be gracious and well chosen, not coarse.

Your manners will be refined and gentle.

You will conduct your affairs with integrity, never greedy for selfish gain.

You will not compromise your convictions, and will not be afraid to stand up for the truth.

Your character will be molded and shaped as that of a prince who has been well trained in the courts of the King.

At an early age, your heart will be ready to call Jesus your Lord, Savior, and King.

Hidden strength, that is what I am declaring for you today.

Grow in stature, in wisdom, and in favor with God and man.

This is my prayer for you today, your second birthday. Grow up in the fear of the Lord, and fulfill your destiny, my dear grandson.

Such a beautiful heartfelt prayer for your grandson. I loved reading the story of his birth and the challenges at the beginning. But God has plans for this boy. And having a praying grandmother who shares the love of Jesus with him will make such a difference.

Blessings and love,
Debbie

Great to see him. "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that ye should abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit", Romans 15: 13.

A belated Happy Birthday to your precious little grandson! He is adorable. I love the prayers you have written for him, that you have prayed over him. Much like a blessing...I have been reading about the practice of offering a blessing on those whom you love and how that principle worked in the culture of Biblical times. The words we speak, not only TO each other, but OVER each other are so very important. Thank you, dear Lidj, for this post. My heart is blessed!
