never jealous or envious,
never boastful or proud,
never haughty or selfish or rude.
Love does not demand its own way.
It is not irritable or touchy.
It does not hold grudges
and will hardly even notice
when others do it wrong.
It is never glad about injustice,
but rejoices whenever truth wins out.
If you love someone, you will be loyal to him
no matter what the cost.
You will always believe in him,
always expect the best of him,
and always stand your ground in defending him.
All the special gifts of God will someday come to an end,
but love goes on forever.

since love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 ESV
Children, let us not love with word,
nor with tongue,
but in deed and in truth.

Love covers.
This thought was on my mind as I woke up this morning.
Love is gentle.
Love accepts... understands... trusts.
Love is more than just a warm, fuzzy feeling.
It is a decision, a tough choice that one makes.
When Ernie passed away two years ago, what I missed the most about him was the way his love protected me.
It was a very strong kind of love, a love willing to understand and accept me as I was.
It was also a love that was humble; it gave him a willingness to change that he might become a better person.
In my husband's love, I saw God's love in action.
In him, I saw love as a sheltering tree.
May this kind of love be passed on to the generations after me.
Today, my grandson Elijah turns 4 months old. I give this prayer blessing of love to him:
Elijah,
As you turn four months old today, I speak to your heart that you are old enough to understand and appreciate the meaning of the love that is being showered on you by your father and mother, and everyone else who takes part in bringing you up.
I speak to your young heart, that you will receive this love in a positive way - not in a grasping and demanding sort of way... but in a way that it feeds and nourishes your spirit.
Perfect love casts out fear.
I declare and I decree today that the love that is poured into you will always be a reflection of the love of your heavenly Father for you. And it will fill your heart with security, and drive out any fear in your heart that will hinder you from being who God created you to be.
You will grow up secure in the love of your God, as you daily, moment by moment, receive a huge deposit of love from the people who surround your life.
I believe that you will grow up patient, and kind... because you have been nurtured in love.
You will know the kind of love that is not easily offended.
You will grow up with your eyes focused on seeing the good in others... you will not become a fault finder, because "love is not irritable, or touchy, does not hold grudges, and hardly notices when others do it wrong."
Yes, I declare that your heart will be softened and tenderized by love - not the self-centered kind of love that smothers and stifles, but true love that frees and releases you to your full potential.
Father, I pray for my grandson, thank you that the love that is deposited into his spirit will enable him to have a love that covers, a love that overlooks another person's wrongs.
Not that he will gloss over sins, nor will he condone them... but he will not allow sin to fester in his own life, and neither will he be an agent of sin in another. Rather, I pray that love will flow out of his heart in such a way that it waters, and gives life to others.
These are my words of blessing for you, my dear Full of Hope and Mighty Warrior, as you turn four months old today.
Love always,
Nana

What a beautiful blessing! You should print that in a beautiful font and frame it with a picture of you and Elijah. It would be something that he treasures when he is older.
He is adorable. I know that he is one of the delights of your life.
Blessings to you,
Dear Lidj,
As I read this I was just
thinking what your first
commenter said. You should
print and frame your prayer
blessing to sweet little
Elijah so he can have it
with him always. He is so
beautiful and precious.
May everything be just as
you have prayed into his
life.
Love & Prayers,
Sandy
Lidj, this is a beautiful post on love and a wonderful prayer for Elijah!
This is SO beautiful, Lidj. I may use an excerpt of your post for a part of the devotions I'm giving this afternoon at my niece's bridal shower. Your statements about love - especially the sheltering love of your husband - go right along with what I've prepared.
By the way, I left a follow up comment to yours on my blog re. heresy, etc.
Our daughter arrived safely in Japan and is awaiting her flight to Philippines as I write this early Sunday morning! I'm surprised that the trip took place and happy to hear she arrived safely.
Good morning, Lidia. Your little Elijah is beautiful, as are your words of love. God bless.
LIDJ! Realizing that what I believe does not matter to another, I do wish to say I believe when all else is naught, only left will be...LOVE!
What a cutie-pie Lidj . . he is adorable. You can be sure these grandsons of yours will be special . . God's love is a special kind of love and it fruits whatever it touches. True love can do some amazing things to a persons life . . I know Dave's did to mine. God Blessings to you, Sandy:O)
From one Nana's heart to another...BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL.
Love you,
Alleluiabelle
so beautiful Lidj, and how blessed this 4 month old is to have you for his grandma! Somehow I can hear an echo of Ernie in these words too, and he would be with you 100%, no doubt he played a large part in your understanding of this very special love.

Beautiful prayer....so much of it was convicting to me. Thanks for sharing your prayer for your grandson and for sharing the wonderful love from your husband...all of which pointed to the Father of Love.
What a precious prayer blessing for your sweet grandson. I agree with others, it definitely deserves a beautiful printing and framing to be cherished by little Elijah for all the days of his life! I am so thankful that love indeed covers me, from so many different directions and in so many different ways!
Many hugs..........
Diane
What a beautiful prayer of blessing for little Elijah. With a Nana like you to always remind him of how much he's loved, I'm sure he will grow up to be one who remembers. How wonderful to speak these words of love.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
Perfect. May I take this prayer and use it over William?
What an inspiration you are! This beautiful prayer both encourages and convicts me of my need to pray more for my darling grandchildren. And may I learn from you--you pray with focus, clarity, and confidence! Thank you for sharing and praying!
By the way, I'll be mailing the book on prayer (!)you requested (plus a few things) tomorrow. May the Lord speed them on their way to your home from mine!! Love, Linda
Dear Lidj,
Many times when you are writing, it is as if someone is speaking through you. It's so well articulate and full of inspired spirit, it makes me feel "like taking off my shoes."
Elijah, Full Of Hope has been so dear to you, even before he was born. He's lucky to be blessed and held before the thrown of God by you.
You are embracing him like but few have ever been done before.
I assure you; your prayers are heard.
I hope to follow young Full of Hope for a long, long time.
May you get blessings and power in return for all your loving care.
From Felisol
Beautiful declaration for your grandson!
I posted a list of daily declarations at my other blog:
www.markingsinthewood.blogspot.com
I've been speaking these outloud everyday, along with the ladies in my Bible study group - and the changes in our attitudes and life have been amazing! Our words are powerful...
Hi Lidj -
Thank you for this reminder of how important love is.
May our Lord increase your precious grandson and your family in manifold ways.
I love this that you expressed,
"Perfect love casts out fear.
"I pray that love will flow out of his heart in such a way that it waters, and gives life to others."
Thank you so much, Lidj.
Love covers and protects! I love the visual as well as the prayer for your grandson.
I prayed for your family this weekend.

Beautiful blessing from a grandmother to her family's future. Elijah is just precious. The Father's love has covered you these past two years and will continue to do so. When you have those difficult days, try to remember, He is sheltering you with His wing. Much love, Lidj.
LIDJ!
I know, and you know that prayer does not have to be 'words'. In fact, I believe the best prayer is that sigh of despair, that sobbing of hopelessness, that utter indescribable pain of loss...or on the other side, the heart full of JOY and PRAISE, for a glad happening.
I believe also that the Divine Heart pumps a bit faster, the Divine Ear hears these 'silent' prayers of desperation FIRST...before those lofty entreaties made in front of the high altar of a cathedral on top a mountain....
God is GREAT! May your silent prayers join with those of People everywhere--and with mine.
Because sometimes there simply ARE no words--just tears.
PEACE for you, Wonderful Woman!
I love it when you pray and speak wonderful blessings to your loved ones. Wow! Your g-son is growing up too fast sister Lidj!
I love to remind myself whenever someone else hurts me. I refer to His Word right away that love is patience or kind or never demands its own way...Who else to turn to but the Author of love when we go through trials?
Thank you sister Lidj for your prayers and encouragement. May you have a wonderful week ahead. The enemies are at bay but my trial is not over...Always remaining alert here by His Spirit. God bless you and your beautiful family.
What a wonderful post!
Blessings,
Ken
Growing up as a child of divorce with an absentee father, I saw the difference between other children who had the covering of that father love and me who didn't. I didn't realize why until later. The love of a father protects, lifts up and loves, just like you described. It is such a blessing and something I rejoice that my sons have.
My husband's love is just like you described, too - a sheltering tree that allows me to flourish.
Such beautiful prayer words for your grandson! Such life, hope and love within them! Blessing words!
Happy 4th month (and 1 week) celebration!
