Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

Discipling Our Nation

Ask of Me, and I will give You
The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth for Your possession.

- Psalm 2:8

Here I am, one day after returning from the Clark Freeport Zone, and still trying to relive the awesome experience I had in that place the past four days.

On Tuesday morning, William, Ruby, Moses and I left Manila and headed for the city of Angeles in Pampanga province to attend the 29th Biennial National Assembly of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC).

PCEC is the largest network of evangelical denominations, local churches and Christian organizations in the Philippines.

What I thought would be a mere perfunctory attendance at a biennial conference turned out to be totally different from my expectations.

Hotel Vida, the venue, was a five-star facility at the Clark Freeport Zone. We were accommodated in mini suites, complete with living and dining areas and verandas overlooking the pool. Although I shared the room with two other ladies, we were very comfortable and there was more than enough space for the three of us.

The breakfast buffet, with its wide assortment of Filipino, Korean, and American food, was something everyone looked forward to each morning.

Meals were served in the hotel dining room which had a tasteful and elegant air, and exuded a warm ambience.

Bishop Reniel Nebab gave the keynote message, Churches Transforming Communities, on Tuesday afternoon. It was a call to view church from a kingdom perspective. His simple but powerful words stirred our hearts as he set the tone for the rest of the conference.

Each of the plenary and workshop speakers during the four-day conference focused on one main concern: individually and corporately we are called to make a difference in our communities.

Our roles may differ, but our task remains the same.

"Incarnational" discipleship is going beyond mere intentions, but living out in our own lives the message of the Great Commission.

Kuya Herman Moldez was right in saying that discipleship these days is fast becoming a watered-down concept. Indeed many church leaders are guilty of worshiping the golden calf of success and personal kingdom building, instead of the One True God.

Pastor Ancho Buenaventura from Palawan urged us to weep for the fatherless of our nation.

Aren't you tired of going through the motions? he asked.

Let our hearts be broken, let our lives have an impact for the communities we are in!

Pastor Ancho has been successful in mobilizing the youth of his province to walk for 75 kilometers 4 days a year, reaching out to their countrymen along the way. This year, thousands of young people have responded to the challenge, and they are making a difference in the way they do church.

The only platform you and I have is the small sphere of influence available to us, but with each of us faithfully doing our part, we can leave an indelible mark and create the impact needed to transform our nation.

Pastor Manny Carlos of Victory Christian Fellowship called it "discipling our nation." Let us go beyond mere theology, doctrine, and beautiful formulas, he said.

Let me roll up my sleeves,
go down on my knees,
and be willing to become a foot-washer to one another.

This was the message that I heard Jesus speaking clearly to my heart again and again.

Determine to know what God has called you to do, and do it!

We are in a war, and each one of us is called to live a war-time lifestyle!

Whether we are aware of it or not, willing to admit it or not, the sin of idolatry has invaded our lives and loves... and we have all turned away from our First Love.

As as result, our message carries no authenticity to a watching world.

Every speaker urged us to return to an intimate relationship with God, that we may reflect His heart and be true ambassadors of His kingdom.

The common message in each of the teaching presented throughout the four days of the conference was threefold:

Walk in humility - rejecting the idolatry of power;
walk in integrity - rejecting the idolatry of success;
walk in simplicity - rejecting the idolatry of greed.

These were timely reminders, taken from the Lausanne Capetown Commitment, but applicable to us, regardless of the context that we find ourselves in.

One particular workshop I attended that served as an eyeopener for me was handled by Pastor Daniel Pantoja of Peacebuilders Community Incorporated during which he shared about his life as a Christian pastor promoting peace and reconciliation among the Muslims of Maguindanao.

As leaders of evangelical churches and Christian organizations, we could not help but be moved by the passion and the anointing of God upon each of the conference speakers.

The word they spoke was timely and relevant, borne out of personal experience.

Let us be people who are not merely stirred by truth, rather let us allow the truth to galvanize us into action,
Pastor Manny Carlos said.

If you have a passion for Jesus, it is but inevitable for you to look at your city with compassion, not judgment.
These words spoken by Pastor Ancho are highlighted in my conference notes.

Passion for Jesus will also inevitably result in a hunger for true worship, one area mentioned by Bishop Nebab as a crucial ingredient for transforming our nation!

An important event worth mentioning is that President Benigno Aquino graced our gathering with his presence on Thursday afternoon. We had an opportunity to pray for him, and pledge our support of him in his fight against corruption and injustice.

On the last day of the conference, all delegates signed the 2011 PCEC National Assembly declaration whereby we promised to be agents of transformation to our communities towards peace, justice, and righteousness by walking in Christ-like humility, integrity, and simplicity.

The celebration of the Lord's Supper was a fitting ending to it all.

In just a few days my time in Manila will come to an end, and I will return to my home city of Bacolod. It has been a wonderful six weeks, indeed!

God has spoken to me in many ways the past weeks, and I am thanking Him for the new strength, and fresh encouragement that He has poured into me while I was here.

I am also thanking Him in advance for the victory that has already been won by His Son Jesus on the cross at Calvary.

Prior to visiting you sister Lidj, the Lord was etching these words into my heart and mind: "Love conquers all..."

Love is the key to anything. It penetrates even the most solid walls. It heals even the deepest wounds. It never judges. It is patient. It doesn't record of any wrongs.

As I read your post, how true it is that we are wandering at times away from the True Source of Love. How can we share His love if we ourselves are straying away from Him?

I love all the pics you shared, as if I was there. Clark must have changed so much since the volcano erupted.

Thank you for always praying. I do need it. The battle is just starting for me. It is a long process but the Lord is teaching me more patience and more trust in His perfect timing. I'm glad I have Him now in my life because if not for Him, I would have gone crazy with what is going on at work. So, to Him be the glory! That is also my prayer. For Him to mold me and as I battle, I pray for those who love to see me fall, for them to see His love and grace instead. This battle after all is not about me. It is always about Him. Blessings and love to you sister.

It is a sad but true statement to know that so often our messages do not carry the authenticity to those that are watching. How I am grateful to see men and women willing to encourage each other to be a respresentative of Christ in thought, word and deed!

I came across something recently that said our greatest tool is the towel...if only our selfish hearts would give way to servant lives...

Thank you for this post. It encourages me to see believers in this great and beautiful world seeking to live and love for Christ.

All is grace!

That you had an opportunity to pray for President Benigno Aquino - in his presence, and pledge your corporate support of him in his fight against corruption and injustice....is awesome! Corporate prayer is powerful!

That was a beautiful photo of the leaders praying over the president. Also, the one of them gathering in prayer in preparation of his coming presence at the conference. That he even came, is so unbelievable to me. I can't see our president agreeing to such a thing!

What an experience you have been privileged to partake in.

God bless you as you reflect upon these past days.

And, when I have learned how to live, I ceased fighting anybody or anything. Life becomes a place of PEACE!

Thank you--again...and again!

Dear Lidj,
I have long time ago lost track of all the conferences you attend and important people you meet.
I registrate that you are being the same sweet person whether you are dining with presidents or commons. That IS a great thing.
Your burning is for Christ and not for fame.
I find you are participating in so man important things these days, when times seems to be changing more than ever before.
My calling seems to be faithful to my nearest and dearest; emptying trash bins and waking late nights.
Someone's gotta do that to; and because we serve the same Lord and need help fighting the same evil fiend, I feel happy to be your Norwegian sister.

When we learn that our mission field are the paths we walk daily, the people who cross those paths daily - not just a Sunday and Wednesday thing - not just people who walk through our church doors but who walk through our lives - only then can we fullfill the Great Commission to reach the lost. In American, maybe a teacher cannot tell a child about Jesus - but she can pray for that child. Sometimes it is not a "Do you believe in Jesus" direct conversation. Sometimes it is just an introduction to prayer. It requires an opening up of ourselves and our hearts to make a connection, the willingness to connect with those who cross our paths, living with our hearts wide open to make that connection.

What a blessing conference to encourage that connection! How wonderful to be surrounded and encouraged God's children - surrounded and encouraged to find the other Lost Children of our Father!

My dear Lidj, I am so happy to hear about the work being done for Christ in the Phillipines. We are indeed in a war, and are called to live a war-time lifestyle. So true. You are on my heart and I am praying for you. God bless you, my precious sister!

Great post Lidj,
You said "Indeed many church leaders are guilty of worshiping the golden calf of success and personal kingdom building, instead of the One True God." It is such a true statement. We must remember, first of all it is His church which He purchased with His blood. We are called to be faithful and obedient and He will bless it, but Jesus said He would build His church. I believe this may be one of the reasons many churches are just a social club, at least here in America.
Thank you for sharing and may God bless,
Ken

Thank you for stopping by my blog and introducing yourself. Elaine is a special soul and I went with the Lord's prompting to help sponsor her for She Speaks. I always knew she had a message, but even more so now. It looks like you have been on an exciting journey yourself. May God continue to use blogging as a way to bring the lost to Him and to glorify His Name.

Blessings!

Hi Lidj -

I much enjoyed this rich piece and the photographs. The glow of our Lord is quite obvious on the many faces.

You expressed, "Our roles may differ, but our task remains the same."

And "Every speaker urged us to return to an intimate relationship with God, that we may reflect His heart and be true ambassadors of His kingdom."

Oh! Lidj - I so agree with those words. Glory Hallelujah for that focus!

Thank you for sharing this, Lidj.
