Grace Walk
Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't try to lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with Me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.

-Matthew 11:29-30 The Message

Hidden Treasures
One of the most satisfying aspects of writing
is that it can open in us deep wells of hidden treasures
that are beautiful for us as well as for others to see.

-Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey

A Modern Day Psaltery
David wrote psalms to express
what was in his heart.
Seeing no need to hide what he felt,
he wrote with sincerity, and with no hidden agenda.
What he felt was never taken against him.
Pray, dear reader, discern my heart between the lines.
Dinah Maria Craik couldn't have said it better:
"Oh the comfort -- the inexpressible comfort
of feeling safe with a person --
having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words,
but pouring them all right out, just as they are,
chaff and grain together;
certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them,
keep what is worth keeping,
and then, with the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."

The Refiner's Fire

The Refiner's Fire

by Lars Justinen

used with permission from Goodsalt™

But who can endure the day of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears?

For He
is like a refiner’s fire ...

- Malachi 3:2

Therefore we do not lose heart.
Even though our outward man is perishing,
yet the inward
man is being renewed day by day.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment,
is working for us
a far more exceeding
and eternal weight of glory,
while we do not look at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen.
For the things which are seen are temporary,
but the things which are not seen
are eternal.

- 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

In the whole land, declares the LORD,
two-thirds will be struck down and perish;
yet one-third will be left in it.

This third I will bring into the fire;
I will refine them like silver
and test them like gold.
They will call on my name
and I will answer them;
I will say, 'They are my people,'
and they will say, 'The LORD is our God.'

- Zechariah 13:8-9

But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

- Job 23:10

The Story Behind this Post

This is a topic that has been brewing in my heart the past months. I just did not know when the right time would come for it to be written.

Then a dear blog friend wrote a post entitled The Refining Process. She had published it about a week ago, but it was only on Sunday afternoon that I got to read it.

Something leaped in my heart as I was reading it. For not only was she sharing her own experience with the Lord as the refiner of her heart, she was also speaking some of the very things that were already in my heart.

Time and again, God has done that for me...He sends a person, be it a book author, a blog writer, a person talking to me face to face, and through them speaks to me the very things that are on my heart!

So, today as this is the day before April ends, and we are about to enter another month, here I am sharing my heart with you on this post.

There are two pictures of the Lord's renewing and re-creating process that have been real to me these past years:

one is the picture of soft clay in the potter's hand,

and the other is the picture of the refiner's fire.

A Painting Speaks to Me

A few months ago I stumbled upon the paintings of Lars Justinen on the web. There was a certain quality to his paintings that touched my heart deeply. One of them, The Refiner's Fire, became my favorite. From time to time I would go back to that picture and allow it to minister to me.

How great God is that in the various creative gifts that He has given to His children, He can really speak and impart truth! In the painting, two things caught my attention - the goldsmith fanning the flames, and the fire.

I saw God as the goldsmith, and the fire as the means He uses to melt the hardness of my heart, remove the dross and purify me. The goldsmith's eyes are intent on what he is doing, he is focused, he is serious, he is committed.

One feels safe and secure in that environment. He knows what he is doing; he is committed to his goal.

Looking Back

Indeed as I look back at my life, the refiner's fire has been very much at work. But God knows just when to turn up the heat, and to lower it.

His timing is crucial... and perfect!

The circumstances of my birth, my upbringing, even the kind of family I was born to, are not accidental. There is a sense in which the refiner's fire has been at work in my life, even from the time I was born!

This is one truth I have realized -- I am a product of the generations.

My parents who raised me and brought me up to the best of their abilities, were also raised by their parents who brought them up in the best way they could.

My father, born in 1911, lost his own father at a young age, and it was his mother and two older sisters who took care of him. Naturally these women made a huge impact on his life.

My mother was born in 1925. Her mother was the second wife of her father whose first wife died early in their marriage. My mother grew up with three brothers together with an older half-sister and half-brother, children of their father from the first marriage.

By the time I was born in 1953, it was only my father's mother, and my mother's father who were still living. In addition to my parents, these two grandparents, my dad's three sisters, and my mom's three brothers all had a big role in shaping the person I was becoming.

There are many things that I remember from those early years, but one thing stands out: I was happy.

My parents took good care of me and my younger sister, and we were raised in an atmosphere of love, provision, security, and care. We were sent to good schools, from kindergarten to university, to ensure that we were equipped with a good education.

To be realistic there were quarrels, disagreements, and conflicts...but somehow these were all resolved, without me really knowing the details of those things.

Yes, there were sad moments, because my mother had the tendency to be unkind with her words when she was angry.

But at this point in my life story, my childhood and teenage years are way down at the bottom of my memory files...and honestly, I no longer remember the pain of those years.

It is the love that I remember... the love that my parents had for one another, their commitment to the family unit, their willingness to work hard to provide for our needs...all these and more served as a hedge of protection around me, and I grew up with my sense of security intact.

My mother's brothers, and my father's sisters were loving and kind. Looking back, I can see that there was an abundance of love in our family.

All of them contributed to the positive environment that I grew up in.

I appreciate and value their contribution to the person that I am now. These were all necessary ingredients in the shaping of my personality and spirituality.

Through the years, even if I have not always been aware of it, I have been going through a refining process.

Parental discipline, the rigorous academic requirements at the schools I attended, relationships with family and friends, unpleasant circumstances...all these have taught me internal and external boundaries in my growing up years.

Our family adhered to the tenets of the Roman Catholic church and this is the religious upbringing that I was exposed to.

Because we were religious and faithful church goers, the ground of my heart was also prepared to meet Christ at a higher level in my sophomore year at the university I attended.

An Encounter With My Creator

In some of my earlier posts, I have written about my deep experience at being confronted with my faith.

It was in 1973 that God became more than just a word to me. I turned the reins of my life over to Him, my Creator... and life has never been the same!

I began attending Sunday worship services with people totally dedicated to following Jesus as their Lord and Savior,

...listening to powerful sermons given by the first pastor I ever knew, a South African by the name of Brian Gibson, then an American named Ralph Tolliver, and later on a lovely British couple named Philip Holder and his wife Margaret,

...weekly small group Bible studies at the back of the university main library with a group called the Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, and with student leaders like Irene Maggay, Lizzie Fullon, and Blou Zamora...

...large group monthly meetings with OMF missionaries like Dick and Rosemarie Dowsett and Jo Laville...

...Saturday mentoring sessions with a lady named Melba Maggay who loved the Lord with such depth of love and passion for His kingdom reign.

I also went on Sunday afternoons with a British lady missionary named Nora Rimmer holding Bible lessons in our native language at homes in the poorer side of town.

My radio would be tuned in to DZAS, the Christian radio station, and I would listen nightly to radio programs such as Unshackled, Back to the Bible, and Haven of Rest.

My hunger and thirst for these new things were insatiable.

In all these developments I knew the Refiner's fire was teaching me new ways of spending my time and my money.

Marriage and Three Important Decades

The First Decade
Ernie and I met in 1976; we were married two years later, in 1978.

In 1979, my husband and I left Manila and moved to Bacolod City. Although I was born and raised in Manila, I welcomed this move as part of my commitment to my marriage.

In the years that followed I lost touch with most of my friends and relatives in Manila. My attention was now focused on my new marriage relationship, and the family that we began to raise together. New relationships came into the picture - that of Ernie's family as well as in the new church that we joined.

The move to another island was a literal uprooting for me. It also marked the first decade of the Lord's deeper dealings with me.

During this initial decade of my marriage, 1978 to 1988, three children were born. My husband was successful in his endeavors, and I was happy to be a SAHM - a "stay at home mom."

These early years of marriage were exciting ones, they were years of discovery, adjustment, and change. They were also challenging ones, as my husband and I learned to resolve conflicts, and discovered more effective ways to becoming a couple, instead of remaining two separate individuals.

Having a husband, even a good one at that, and three children who came one after the other were major ingredients in my refining process.

The church I attended provided me with new lessons on living out my spirituality, rather than being merely cerebral. In truth, I had to unlearn very many things in my Christian understanding, to give room to learn new practical truths that our pastor was teaching.

The Second Decade
From 1989 to 1999, the second decade of my marriage, the Lord brought me through a pruning season.

My husband's business ventures collapsed and I found myself in the middle of an unexpected bankruptcy. Posts about this season were written in the early months of this blog.

It was in this refining season that I learned valuable lessons on selflessness and humility.

It was in this season that I reached the end of my self-sufficiency and learned to hold on to God alone.

It was in this season that I came to have an intimate relationship with all three Persons of the Trinity. God revealed Himself to me as Faithful Father, Jesus became my Friend who sticks closer than a brother, and the Holy Spirit as my Comforter and Guide.

In this season, I would awaken middle of the night and realize that my Father had something important to speak to me!

This was the decade that God drew me closer to Himself, and revealed Himself to me as my All in All.

The Third Decade
As the year 1999 was drawing to a close and, 2000 was just a few months away, I knew God was bringing me to another decade, a new level of trusting Him. God spoke clearly to me that He was bringing me to my "frontier season," a season of uncharted waters and undiscovered territories.

But I knew that the refining process was not yet over.

In November 2000 I met Craig Hill and became part of the ministry of Family Foundations International. This was an important part of my healing. God spoke truth to me, the truth of who I was in Him. He helped me recover a sense of my God given identity and destiny, learned to recognize the false plumbline that I had allowed to set the standard for my life, and I discovered that although I had been a Christian for many years, there were still layers of unforgiveness and anger and shame in my life that God wanted to remove and heal.

In 2003 I celebrated my jubilee year, when I turned 50 years old. It was the year that I received confirmation that God had indeed brought me to a new level of knowing Him.

And indeed, in the years that followed, I saw an increasing recovery of what had been stolen from me. While not all has been fully restored at this point, I know that the refining process will bring to completion what has been begun!

The year that Ernie and I were in Thailand, 2007-2008, God brought us to new heights in our relationship with Him and with one another that we had never before reached.

Then six weeks upon our return to our homeland, on November 23, 2008, God called my beloved husband home to heaven.

It is only now as I write these lines that I began to see how God has been working in my life these past three decades of my life. As I note down the years...I am amazed at the way He has synchronized the events, and given me a clear pattern of what He was doing in my life.

Indeed, He is the God of the seasons, and as Ernie and I were married in 1978, the start of the deeper refining work that God was doing in my life, in 2008, I find myself at the end of one season, and at the threshold of another!

Three decades of pruning. Three to symbolize completion and perfection! Three to see the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit uniting, working together in harmony, orchestrating the events of my life, and revealing the plans that the Triune God has for me!

With the death of my husband, I realize that the heat of the Refiner's Fire was turned up... but as 2009 progressed, God was personal, and He drew very near to me...pouring the healing balm into my heart, doing a softening work, removing more and more hardened layers ... that the real me, the true self God had created, may be revealed.

A New Decade, A New Season

This new decade of my life is new territory for me. My two sons have gotten married giving me two wonderful daughters - God Given and Chosen One, and I also now have one grandson, a wonderful boy whom I have named Forerunner.

Although there are new members to my family, I also realize that I am walking this season alone, without the comfort and security of a marriage partner. Suddenly I am the spiritual head, the doorway. On my shoulders are three important roles: that of being prophet, priest, and king.

I am entering the land of the unknown, but I am not entering it unprepared. The Refiner's fire is still at work, and new things are being constantly revealed.

The year 2010 is a year of breakthrough... a year of double grace. It is the year of Restoration, of Recovery, of Equipping.

It is also the Year of the Tithe, when God is teaching me new ways of being a faithful steward of what He has entrusted to me.

Indeed, my treasure chest is full ... precious memories and beautiful material possessions fill my life.

But as I move on in this new decade, I realize that there are very many things, those that I once held dear, that no longer matter. Only a very few things are important to me now.

Definitely there is no room in my heart for old grudges and heavy expectations from others to meet my standards.

I am also in the difficult process of sorting through my things and eliminating stuff. I cannot believe how much we have accumulated in just thirty years of marriage... and this is my season of letting go of excess baggage.

This is an exciting season as God has revealed to me that He has called me to be a minister of healing in these end times for the Bride of Christ.

He is calling me to simplicity...to take stock of what I have, and bring with me on this new journey only what is essential. God is teaching me the importance of traveling light, holding on to what truly matters.

He is calling me to rest, and to stillness...teaching me that Jesus is the Shepherd who brings me to quiet waters, He is the One who restores my soul.

He is calling me to brokenness and humility, being willing to let myself be broken...like an alabaster jar...that the fragrance of my life may be spilled out for Him, as an offering to Him and as a balm of healing for others.

He is calling me to His Table... to commune with Him, to partake of the feast that He lays out for me in the presence of my enemies. Yes, this is still hostile, enemy territory, but He is the one who carries me to His Table!

He is calling me to Obedience, and to Faith... for these are the two qualities that will hasten the fulfillment of His purposes in my life.

And He is calling me to Beauty...true beauty not as this world sees, but as He sees. He is calling me to look at life from the view of my eternal home...calling me to view the plans that He has for me, to see the events of my life in light of the loveliness of eternity, the right perspective... heaven's perspective.

The Refiner's fire is still at work, but the dross is rising to the surface, and when the Goldsmith sees His face reflected on my heart, then the work is complete!

How I pray for that day to come soon... but until then, I welcome the Refiner's fire to finish the Heavenly Goldsmith's work in my life.

God knows what He is doing. He is trustworthy. In Him my heart dwells secure.

Tomorrow marks the end of April.

I am booked on the dawn flight that will take me back to my home city, where I will discover what May has in store for me. As I end this post, I want to share another beautiful hymn that has been a source of comfort to me all these years.

Thank you for being with me in my life journey, dear blog friends. To each one of you who has read this long story up to this point, I offer this prayer on your behalf:

May God and His refining work be welcomed in your life.

May you discover Him as the God who understands and knows every detail of your journey.

Oh taste and see that the Lord is good!

His promises never fail, His purposes prevail to all the generations!

May you give Him full authority to do with your life as He pleases, to the end that your heart will be a pure reflection of His beauty, to the praise and honor of His name!

Take My Life and Let It Be

Lyrics by Frances R. Havergal

Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee;
Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.

Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee;
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.

Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise;
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine;
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

A Way of Seeing

Beautiful Sunrise

Call to Me and I will answer you
and tell you great and unsearchable things
you do not know.

- Jeremiah 33:3

This morning in church, Pastor Joey Bonifacio spoke to us about another kingdom story.

The story begins this way: The kingdom of heaven is like a Landowner who hired workers to work in his vineyard....

At the eleventh hour, He still welcomed workers to come in and join the others. At the end of the day, all laborers were given the same pay.

The response of those who began working early in the day is the same response that we see in many workplaces around the world today: they grumbled and accused the landowner of being unfair.

The Landowner, who represents God in the story, stands His ground. Everybody gets equal pay...after all, every worker who was hired agreed to work for the same amount, one denarius.

The main point that Pastor Joey brought out is something that we have probably all heard before. But the passionate way in which he spoke just struck my heart. "Everybody is equal under the love of God... He is such a good...good...good God."

And he is right. This is what it is like to live in God's kingdom.

God wants to give us an idea of what His eternal reign is like. People grumble because we do not often encounter such goodness in our day-to-day dealings. In this world, we love to "one up" one another! And so we are not really familiar with this way of doing things.

The Landowner asks, "Am I not free to do what I want with my money? Or are you envious because I am generous?"

The message of the parable is clear:

In the kingdom of God, grace is abundant.

And then something Pastor Joey says catches me by surprise.

When Jesus says, "So the last will be first, and the first will be last," He was referring to Himself.

That He is the Son who did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped.

That we who are the last were given prime importance in His kingdom, and He who was supposed to be the first became last, willingly came to earth as a servant, and emptied Himself, and died on the cross...taking upon Himself a death that should have been yours and mine!

This is another story that reflects the upside down nature of God's kingdom.

It created in my heart this afternoon a deep longing to encounter the beauty of our King...as shown in the story of the Landowner in Matthew 20.

He cares. He loves. His compassion runs deep. His touch is gentle.

His graces are unfathomable, unsearchable!

There is really nothing like this in this wordly kingdom where self is the ruler, and where pride and selfishness are the standards.

This story caused me to long for this heavenly Kingdom... where grace abounds.

I know that it's possible to experience and live in the beautiful reign of this Landowner-King right here in this world...but hearing the Father's heart depicted in the story gave me a deep longing to encounter the beauty, the loveliness of God in His heavenly kingdom!

I remembered the time when Ernie and I experienced such a homesickness for our homeland, the Philippines, a couple of months after we arrived in Thailand in 2007. The more I thought about it the more I realized that the longing I felt to be back in my native land was similar to the longing that we have for heaven, our heart's true home.

(Homesick, a blog post written in the early stages of this weblog will always be one of my favorites.)

This world is really no longer our home once we turn over the throne of our lives to Jesus.

All this sickness, pain, disappointment, pollution, corruption, danger, hypocrisy...something tells us that this is not home...this is not where we belong! Something tells us that we were not designed for such a low level of existence!

We were created for something far more noble!

And so we always look forward to the day of our homegoing, the place where we know that the welcoming arms of our heavenly Father await us!

All afternoon I listened to Mercy Me's I Can Only Imagine, one song that will always be among my top favorites.

While listening to this uplifting song, I began to imagine what it must be like to finally reach heaven's shores.

I imagined the table of feasting and rejoicing...

the lush gardens and bountiful waterfalls...

the gurgling brooks...

the endless blue seas...

tall, majestic mountains and green rolling hills...

lions, lambs, puppies, kittens, and birds!

the gentle breeze blowing over prairies

exotic trees and lovely flowers of all varieties...

the perfect city where crime will not rule the streets

walking on streets of gold!

the song and the laughter...

the joy, the kindness, the gentleness...

the looking forward to each new day...

what would it be like to live in a place where there is no night?

where the radiance of our King lights up everything?

where there is no sadness, no grief, no tears?

where nothing is hidden and there is no shame?

Indeed, all eternity will not be enough to discover the deep beauty of our God and King, a beauty that will keep unfolding before our eyes, like one glorious secret after another being revealed!

I thanked God for the power of imagination...it helps me see the heavenly realities behind the kingdom stories of Jesus, opens up my spiritual senses, and allows me to live in a wonderful expectation of what heaven is like.

Where would we be without imagination?

Imagination is such a powerful and amazing gift that God our Creator gave us.

It is through this mental activity that we are able to learn, and to create.

Without imagination, it would be impossible to connect the events of our past with the present and future events of our lives.

Without imagination we would be living disjointed, disconnected lives...

It is imagination that helps us to survive the pain, the disappointment, the harsh realities of this present life.

Imagination enables us to dream...and to hope...and causes our hearts to be filled with endless wonder.

Imagination helps us to understand and to take hold of the beautiful promises that God has for each one of us.

Needless to say, this gift that God gave us has also been accessed by the enemy of our souls. We only know too well of what people with dark, twisted, and depraved imaginations are capable of.

That is why we should always let God purify and sanctify our minds. I believe that imagination is one of the mental faculties that helps connect us to God. It links us to the realities of His eternal kingdom, and enables us to receive a revelation and understanding of what God...and heaven are like!

O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus
(Words by Samuel Francis, Music by Thomas Williams)

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!

A Longing for Beauty

Beautiful sunset
View from Oakwood Premiere Suites

April 19, 2010

In that day the Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious.

- Isaiah 4:2

Deep calls unto deep…

- Psalm 42:7

Even though we live in the midst of a fallen world, we can still see dim reflections of the glory and the beauty of God.

Everything beautiful we see around us today is but a shadow of things to come. As glorious as a sunset or a well watered garden or a majestic mountain may appear to be, these are still but tiny glimpses of the beauty that awaits our eyes in eternity, reflections as it were from a badly shattered mirror.

But what has also amazed me as I often think about these things is that we all have a memory of this eternal beauty deeply embedded in our hearts.

Mike Bickle has rightly said that one of the deep longings of the human heart is the longing to be fascinated, to be captivated by the beautiful.

One of the things that I am really looking forward to in heaven is the thought that I will be encountering the beauty of God, not just for a moment, but for eternity!

Wow, that thought is literally mind blowing, and mind boggling.

In this season of my life I am looking forward to digging deeper into the treasure chest of God's word, and to discovering more about the glory and the beauty realm of God.

And I know that God will not expose the beauty of His heart to anyone who will not appreciate it. It is hidden beauty because it is so precious, so valuable! He will not throw lovely pearls only to be trampled on, or minimized, or devalued! He will reveal His beauty only to those who long to dig deeper, discover it.

And so God is taking us His people deeper into His heart...and this explains why there is a greater global movement for worship -- because as the end draws near, God wants us to long for the beauty of His heart, creating in us a hunger, a thirst for the eternal beauty that is found in Him and in heaven, the final destination of those who have chosen Him to be their God and King!

I arrived back in Manila last Saturday, and the next two days after that were spent doing deep level ministry with friends. We were booked at a lovely hotel in Ortigas Center... something I never expected to happen.

But God has always had a way of bringing pleasant and unexpected surprises to my life time and time again.

One of the main themes of my spiritual journey is simple elegance. My heavenly Father knows that... I find so much beauty in simplicity. I love simple joys, uncomplicated relationships, transparency, humility.

There is so much beauty in a broken heart that is willing to be healed!

And this is the message that God has spoken clearly to me again and again...that He is sending me to be an agent of His healing to the brokenhearted.

And I believe that my journey the past two days was an introduction to what lies ahead of me!

Today, we start another seminar...and it will be at another beautiful place. With more beautiful people.

I just wanted to take this time to post some pictures of the beautiful photos I have taken these past days.

And this is the cry of my heart this morning:

You're beautiful to me, my Father.

You reveal Your beauty to me at many significant stops in my journey.

You captivate me, You take my breath away...

You have taken me to beautiful places...

Given me beautiful experiences...beautiful memories...

You have given me beautiful people in my life...

People with generous and kind hearts...

People with humble hearts that are breaking and longing to be healed.

But You help restore...You help us recover...

Your healing touch is beautiful... You're beautiful!

Obedience is the Key

An eagle soaring above storm clouds

...but those who hope in the LORD

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

- Isaiah 40:31

After spending two weeks in Manila, I returned to Bacolod City on April 13.

Tomorrow, I am scheduled to go back there for more Kingdom work waiting to be done in the days ahead.

Knowing that I only have about four days in my home city, I still opted to come home - to touch base, to reconnect, to honor prior commitments, and above all... to obey.

It would have been more practical to rebook my return flight to a later date. But when I considered doing this, there was no peace in my heart.

The alarm clock rang at 4:30 on Tuesday morning, giving me thirty minutes to get ready before leaving for the airport. When I awoke, the temptation to continue sleeping was very strong, to not show up for my flight. Anyway, I could always have my ticket rebooked, and it actually would save me the cost of another plane ticket to come back!

A number of options were going on in my mind...just to get the extra 40 winks...just to stay on in Manila and be with my daughter a little longer. So many good reasons to stay.

But there was no peace in my heart.

I finally said, "Yes, Lord. I will go back to my home city, even if it means I will only be there three full days."

As soon as I did that, the tiredness left my body; in its place came a surge of joy and strength. It almost felt miraculous.

All the way to the airport, the sense of peace and joy never left.

Again, it was all about obedience. As soon as I decided to obey that little voice telling me to go back home, even for just a few days, the Lord infused me with fresh strength.

In one of the seminars that we run, the Building a Strong Financial House seminars, we learn that the first important thing to determine in one's life is your vision.

Where there is a vision, there's a provision.

Provision literally means, "for the vision."

These days it is common to hear about the vision and mission statements of a church, an institution, or a company. It is good to be guided by such, but sometimes I struggle when I read elaborate versions of vision and mission, so beautifully worded, such lofty ideals being aimed for.

As I understand it, vision is simply the calling or the assignment that God has for me, for a given season in my life.

And God is only too happy to reveal the assignment that He has for each one of us, in simple, down-to-earth terms!

But in order to hear and discern correctly, obedience is the key.

If I am obeying, God gives me a vision, oftentimes not the whole vision as if I were viewing my life through the wide angle lens of a camera...but just a tiny glimpse of it, one piece at a time, one step at a time.

Being aware of my mission, of my calling, and living out that calling on my life opens up the flow of provision.

Provision for guidance, for peace, for protection and strength, for finances.

"This is the way, walk in it."

There is also provision for growth and change.

Facing this new season, I have become aware of rough spots in my character where change needs to come. And I've asked God to help me deal once more with some areas of pride and self-righteousness in my heart.

Keep me humble, Lord...keep me humble.

As I teach, as I minister, as I pray for healing and breakthroughs to take place in the lives of others, my ongoing prayer is: Deal with the blind sides of my life, dear Father. Deal with my own heart first, dear God.

Sometimes without intending to, I may have been too hasty in voicing an opinion, or a giving a thoughtless remark that could have hurt someone else.

A promise forgotten, a debt unpaid
, a long overdue visit, an act of kindness overlooked.

A relationship neglected or taken for granted.

God help me to be sensitive and to be more discerning.

The thought has also occurred to me that I should probably set this blog aside for a season, to sort through my priorities, to narrow down my focus, that I may see more clearly the new path ahead of me. More uncharted waters, I sense.

I'm still trying to sense God's reading on this move.

Obedience is the key... the means to a greater faith.

It's not simply a matter of believing, as I have realized.

The other day I was surprised to hear myself say these words to a person I was conversing with:

Belief is not the same as faith.

Even I was struck by what I said! And these past two days I have pondered on the difference between belief and faith.

Belief can be just an intellectual thing, something we hold on to, as in a belief someone cherishes in his heart and mind. A belief can be handed down, and simply accepted, without being questioned, or challenged. I think that a set of beliefs is how religious denominations came about; a common belief is what binds people together.

Faith goes much deeper. All Jesus requires of anyone is faith as small as a mustard seed.

Last Sunday Pastor Edgar said that when we have a big God, we only need a small amount of faith to start with. But those who have a small God need huge amounts of faith. When I heard it expressed that way, it made so much sense to me!

Once again, obedience is the key.

A belief doesn't need any obedience to grow. Sometimes, one can go to great lengths and become a staunch defender of what he believes in! But no obedience is required for a belief. A belief is a passive thing. It can leave one unchanged, or even result in narrow minds and myopic perspectives.

On the other hand, obedience is what fuels our faith to grow. Faith is never passive. It is always active! Faith is an individual person's lookout, a personal response to what God has revealed to him. For faith to expand and be stretched, a crisis is often necessary. Faith is never an intellectual thing!

Active faith is continually being tested and proven!

Faith and obedience go hand in hand.
Faith is a major ingredient in a growing relationship. If I have faith in the goodness of my God, then I am willing to give what I can to bring our relationship to the next level.

And faith doesn't depend on numbers. It is quite willing to stand alone.

Just like Abraham, or Moses, Joshua, Esther, Ruth.

And somewhere along the way, God breaks through and gives us a panoramic vision of what He is doing for us - just as Jesus for a few moments revealed His glory at His transfiguration.

Our obedience does that for us. God allows us a transfigured view of our destiny, even if only for a few moments. He does not always leave us in the dark. He encourages us, He brings us up above the dark storm clouds of this earthly existence, and gives us a glimpse into eternity!

So here I am again standing before a new and higher road ahead ... learning to rely not on my own carefully laid out plans...but being willing to be a servant at the beck and call of the Master.

But more than just being a servant...

I know God wants to know us as Friend...

as Son... as Daughter...

as the radiant Bride!

And He is not just our Master who is completely trustworthy to be obeyed...

He is our Father waiting to be loved!

"Carried to the Table"

The Lord's Supper by Warner Sallman

Beautiful Grace and The Other Side of ... were my very first blog friends. I was still living in Chiang Mai, Thailand when this blog was born, and I was in the process of searching the web for blog elements to include in my sidebar.

That was how I came upon their blogs, and the blog friendships that resulted is something that I will always treasure in my heart.

They followed my blog, and kept me company during that season of my life.

The other day, Beautiful Grace left a comment at my Walkway Reflections entitled The Table where she gave me the link to the song that I want to share on this post.

I had never heard anything about Leeland before, much less this song.

While listening to this unbelievably beautiful song, tears just came to my eyes... the melody, the words, the voice singing, even the pictures that were used by the person who put this together for YouTube...

This is definitely my song for this new season of my life.

And to you my faithful blog readers, I say thank you for having been part of my life story. I share this song with you today with the prayer that as spring season is once again here, may your hearts be drawn closer to the Father's love.

After this post, I will probably not be able to do entries as often as I have done so in the past.

But you are always welcome to leave a comment or two under my previous posts, as all comments are forwarded to my email box. I also encourage those of you who know my email address to write me directly.

For now, I have discerned that God is leading me on a different path.

When the Master calls, I want to obey.

Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing
when he comes.

-Luke 12:43

Carried to the Table
(by Leeland)

Wounded and forsaken
I was shattered by the fall
Broken and forgotten
Feeling lost and all alone
Summoned by the King
Into the Master’s courts
Lifted by the Savior
And cradled in His arms

I was carried to the table
Seated where I don’t belong
Carried to the table
Swept away by His love
And I don’t see my brokenness anymore
When I’m seated at the table of the Lord
I’m carried to the table
The table of the Lord

Fighting thoughts of fear
And wondering why He called my name
Am I good enough to share this cup
This world has left me lame
Even in my weakness
The Savior called my name
In His Holy presence
I’m healed and unashamed

You carried me, my God
You carried me

"In Remembrance of Me"

In Remembrance
(by Ragan Courtney and Buryl Red)

In remembrance of Me eat this bread
In remembrance of Me drink this wine
In remembrance of Me pray for the time
When God's own will is done

In remembrance of Me heal the sick
In remembrance of Me feed the poor
In remembrance of Me open the door
And let your brother in, let him in

Take eat and be comforted
Drink and remember too
That this is my body and precious blood
Shed for you, shed for you

In remembrance of Me search for truth
In remembrance of Me always love
In remembrance of Me don't look above
But in your heart, in your heart
Look in your heart for God.

Do this in remembrance of Me
Do this in remembrance of Me
In remembrance of Me

Walkway Reflections 14: The Table

This was the fourteenth and last station on the Walkway Interactive Stations of the Cross.

It was wonderful how beautiful the ending was - each Christ believer and follower was given the opportunity to partake of the Lord's Supper in a very meaningful way!

There was a lovely table set up, just the way it probably was set up on the night Jesus was betrayed.

Somehow, it was a solemn reminder to me that the Lord's Supper is a sacrament, an ordinance which points to the redemptive purpose of what Jesus went through.

"Do this in remembrance of Me." These are the words of Jesus. "Each time you do this, you celebrate what I have done, until I come back again!"

Those words strike deep.

The truth is, on March 27, my 57th birthday, I had a sense that it was the start of something very different in my life. Like this year is not going to be like any year I've ever been through!

I had actually planned to start a 21 day Daniel Fast on that very day, and also commit to celebrate the Lord's Supper everyday, just by myself, in the quiet of my prayer room, Elim.

But the plan did not materialize... for many reasons. The day called for a celebration, not a fast, and so I realized that the Daniel Fast could be moved to a later date.

I decided to celebrate the day with my friends, and with a special dinner with my family that evening.

A few days later, I was back in Manila, and since I was conducting seminars, and doing ministry, it also was not the proper time to go into a fast.

One great thing though is that for three days now, my daughter Obedient One and I have been celebrating the Lord's Supper everyday. It has such a cleansing and healing effect on us.

Indeed, taking Communion everyday has a way of keeping our hearts and spiritual senses focused on the Lord!

As this will be my last post on the Walkway Reflections, I realize that my Holy Week experience this year was tailor made for the new season that God has prepared for me.

How meaningful everything has been thus far! God is speaking to me again of obedience.

"Do you love Me?" He seems to be asking.

"Yes, Lord, You know that I do." I hear myself saying the same words Peter told Jesus.

"Feed My sheep...feed My lambs."

My Holy Week experience was a God ordained introduction to the next leg of my spiritual journey! There will be healing, there will be cleansing, there will be a season of waiting, and learning new ways of trusting Him.

It is a season of being about my Father's business.

Walking the second mile. Turning the other cheek. Giving away the extra tunic.

And He said to them,
“Take nothing for the journey,

neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money;

and do not have two tunics apiece.

- Luke 9:3

Walkway Reflections 13: The Cloth

51Listen, I tell you a mystery:
We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—

52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound,
the dead will be raised imperishable,
and we will be changed.
53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable,
and the mortal with immortality.
54
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable,
and the mortal with immortality,

then the saying that is written will come true:

"Death has been swallowed up in victory."

55
"Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?"

56The sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.

57But thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

- 1 Corinthians 15:51-57

Jesus has risen, He's alive forevermore!

He rose victorious from the grave!

Death has no power over him!

The last enemy to be conquered is death... and Jesus has conquered it for us!

And as I stood in front of this station, I felt a surge of power and victory inside of me. I am not a victim, cause I've got the Victor living in me!

This was such a powerful experience, going through the stations of the Cross at the Walkway. This is why I have gone to great lengths posting all about it on my blog...that this very special Holy Week of 2010 will be recorded. This is the season of springtime, and God has broken through for me again.

Confirming His call upon my life.

Speak life to the downhearted! Spread the Good News that Resurrection is real. Death has no power over us, Jesus our Redeemer has already died in our place.

Now all we have to do is to accept His finished and completed work on Calvary, and this includes accepting and believing in the power of His Resurrection!

The instructions at this particular station was to get a card from the table, write the name of the person who has touched my life in a special way, and say a special prayer for him or her... and then put up the card on the line provided...FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE!

It was amazing that both Trudi and I thought of the same person. We were doing the stations separately, and so it came as a delight to both of us when we realized we had the same person on our hearts!

Father, I thank you so much for Ruby. She has done so much to encourage me, to lift me up, to spur me onward to live out my true calling and assignment. She is a life giver, a true picture of Your Resurrection LIFE and POWER! I thank God for Ruby. Lead her on to the next level of her destiny, dear Father. I thank You for the love that she has shown, not only to me and Trudi, but to so many others.

I thank you above all that You have given me the eyes to see the gem that she is...and if there are others who have not seen this, then it is their great loss! What a priceless gift her love and friendship are to me.
